Your doctor can remove it surgically with a small incision. You are given a dose of medication to numb the area so that it does not hurt. In almost all cases, people can go home after doing it. You may need to come back in a few weeks to get some stitches. Lipomas larger than 2 inches are sometimes referred to as "giant lipomas". They can cause nerve pain, make you look uncomfortable or make it more difficult to adjust clothes.
Sometimes an unencapsulated lipoma infiltrates the muscle, in which case it is called infiltrating lipoma5,11,12. Dercum's disease, or adipose dolorosa, characterized by the presence of irregular painful lipomas, is a rare clinical consideration. Curcumin is the active ingredient responsible for the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of turmeric. Andrew Stowe of Fairfax, Va., Donated turmeric powder to Cayman, his 13-year-old yellow lab, as part of a treatment for arthritis. Cayman had developed six large and medium-sized lipomas and, while taking turmeric, three of them disappeared and the others decreased. After six months, the arthritis treatment stopped working (Cayman started to limp again), so Stowe stopped treatment, and the dog's lipomas came back and he still developed more. Stowe thinks turmeric may have suppressed their growth.

The results of the MRI were the diagnosis of a benign lipoma. The patient chose not to undergo a surgical resection of the mass.
